O'Neil tried out for the third season of Canadian Idol in the early year of 2005, while at high school. The judges were impressed with her singing and she advanced to the Top 100 Round. O'Neil was praised highly by the judges, however she suffered significant losses during the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals when she was voted in the bottom three spots and bottom two and bottom two, respectively.
