Nadia Elena Comaneci
The year was 1976 and she was a global celebrity when she scored the first ever perfect 10 on an asymmetrical bar at the Montreal Olympic Games. Then she scored six other perfect 10 and became the youngest Olympic all-around gold medalist at just fourteen years of age. In addition to helping Nadia Comaneci attract attention from everywhere however, she also assisted in helping Romania to establish itself on the map of the world. By achieving a score that was unattainable, this sporting icon brought gymnastics to the forefront of global interest. This changed the perception of female athletes. Her impact was so significant that she was named the Olympic toe on and release moves. These are still rated difficult. Besides Olympics, she showed remarkable performances at the World Championships and European Championships and was subsequently a living legend and one of the best-known gymnasts anyone could be privileged to. She also modeled and promoted the sport of gymnastics after having moved into the US.
