Annette Funicello, then 13 years old, was discovered in the hands of Walt Disney in an amateur show called Swan Lake performed in Fullerton California. Funicello was not asked to be a part of The Mickey Mouse Club cast in the first season and much to her Mickey Mouse Club colleagues' disappointment. Disney had the right idea to take this choice, since Funicello quickly became the star in The Mickey Mouse Club. Also, she had her own story of adventure, Adventures in Dairyland. Annette, however, was not a fan of Funicello singing. Funicello was eventually comfortable with making records and really enjoyed having a working relationship with Camerata among the rare 40-something arrangers that had access to the essential elements of the early rock music. Annette Sings Anka was the third album, and probably one of the first albums to feature the rock music of singers as part of the repertoire. Funicello was the star of Beach Party, one of the five beach party movies that was a huge success. The majority of the time, they were co-starring Frankie Avalon, these films are produced by AIP However, the scripts of each film have been personally accepted and read by Walt Disney to maintain Annette's clear image.
